Is Your CPA On Their Game?

Is Your CPA On Their Game?

Because it’s early March

Now is the time when your CPA has been working 12+ hour days 6 or 7 days a week since early January.  Even the most professional tax preparers, CPAs and tax attorneys are coming apart at the seams.  Those 4 a.m. emails are not a figment of your imagination. The downside is that if you are just now getting your CPA your business tax information and need to file for the March 15th corporate tax deadline your CPA is toast.  This is when the mistakes happen.  This is when tempers flare and patients are short.  So how do you make sure you are still getting the best possible service and an accurate return?

  1. Present your information in an organized and clear manner.  Don’t use up the last ounce of energy and brain power they have sorting through some mess.
    • Clearly label documents
    • Upload or email them all at once not piece-meal over a series of days
    • Make sure you send everything they need.
  2. Communicate in emails.  That way they (and you) can refer back to what was discussed.
  3. Respond promptly.  They have lots of customers.  If they are stalled on your account they will begin work on someone else’s returns and get back to you when they can.
  4. Be patient and understanding.  It’s a hard time of year and while you are the customer and deserve great service they are trying their best (or at least they should be).
  5. Set reminders for yourself for next year so that you are ahead of the curve.  Have the important planning conversations in the fall not in the midst of the crazy pace of tax time.
