Having Two QuickBooks Company Files Open At A Time

Having Two QuickBooks Company Files Open At A Time

With Quickbooks 2011 it is now possible!

A common frustration among QuickBooks Accountant Edition users for years has been that you could only have one QuickBooks file open at a time.  With programs like Excel you can open multiple files and cut and paste, but with QuickBooks you could only have one data file open at a time.  This meant opening one file and printing reports for inter company transactions, file to file postings, etc.   Well those days are finally over.  Now when you have the need to have more than one company open you can.

With QuickBooks Premier 2011 Accountant and Enterprise Editions you can now open two files simultaneously.  This means that things that once had to be done by bouncing back and forth, opening and closing files,  printing multiple reports and so on can now be done with two companies open side by side on your desktop.

Starting a new QuickBooks file but need to post the ending balances and open Accounts Receivable transactions from your old QuickBooks file? Open the new and old files side by side, cut and paste details from the old accounts receivable transactions, look at the old trial balance while you work and review lists in both files side by side without printing.

To use the feature you must have QuickBooks 2011 Accountant or Enterprise Editions.  While in the QuickBooks program simply click the option under the FILE drop down menu “Open Second Company”, or double click on the sencond company’s QBW icon.

Certain features such as the help menu cannot be used when you have multiple companies open but all essential program parts are functional.
