Overwhelmed With All There Is To Do? Outsource and Delegate

The small business owners’ to-do list is never ending.  Marketing, accounting, customer service, human resources, research and development tasks pile up faster than we can often even add them to our list.  I’m often overwhelmed with all the nagging things that need doing.  They seem to get in the way of the things that actually matter.  How many hours a day do we spend answering emails rather than creating and making?  Exactly!

Cutting down the list is never easy but here are a few tips to help you get started:

1. Determine what your core talents and strengths are.  Those are the things you should be spending your time on.  As your budget allows using your time on the things that you are naturally strong with will lead to great results.

2. Determine what are your weakest areas.  Offload these tasks first.  Find someone who is excellent in these areas to help.  If details aren’t your thing then the bookkeeping probably needs to be delegated.  If technology isn’t your strong suit systems development needs to be given to a team member or outside consultant that lives for it.

3. Find time consuming tasks that are inexpensive to have others do. In the world of small business payroll should be the first thing to go.  Leverage outside expertise for just a few dollars a month.  You could make a career keeping up with the state tax agencies and IRS.  Let an outside service help out.
